Our blood sugar can get out of control, unless we create some healthy habits; here are some simple ways to help you balance your blood sugar.
- Get more exercise, movement helps a lot with the blood sugar:
- Go for a walk, even a short walk
- Get up and dance, move your arms and legs while watching a movie
- Do some stretches while laying in bed
- Take up Yoga, even chair yoga
- Find small ways to add more movement into your day
- Eat a meal or a snack every 3 - 4 hours to stop the roller coaster that we create with forgetting to eat, not eating all day, eating only sugaring things, etc.
- Take healthy snacks with you, to make sure you eat every 3 - 4 hours
- If you are going to an event, ask them what time dinner is, bring a snack if they are serving a late dinner. learn to be prepared with life catches you off guard.
- Make sure every meal/snack has some protein and fiber; fiber slows the release of the sugar into your bloodstream. Some examples are:
- Apples and nuts
- Banana and nut butters
- Steamed broccoli with sea salt, butter/coconut oil, grated cheese and hemp seeds
- Oatmeal, berries, flax meal on top
- Green Salad, with sunflower seeds, or shrimps, or tofu, or chicken on top
- Quinoa with your choice of spices, steamed veggies, tofu, or meat
- If you have to have sweets (ice cream, cake, etc.) eat them after a meal high in fiber (veggies, whole grains, etc.), as fiber slows the release of the sugars
- Use Stevia instead of sugar; do not use Aspartame.
- Take supplements such as: Chromium, Magnesium, B Vitamins, Berberine, Bitter Melon, a Blood Sugar formula, etc.
- If you are on Insulin, do talk to your doctor as some of these can get things working better in your body and your Insulin might need to be adjusted.
